India Won fair & square

Former Pakistan captain, Wasim Akram reacted angrily to Dr. Ali Bacher’s allegation that last year’s World Cup match between India and Pakistan was fixed.

When told that Dr. Bacher had named Majid Khan as his source, Akram said, “Who would want to believe Majid Khan? I was captain of the side and we all tried our level best to win the game.

It was a Super Six match and one of vital importance to both sides. We bowled pretty well to restrict them to 227 but they came back very strongly to win the game. Their bowlers, especially Prasad, did a great job, and they beat us fair and square. It was a hard fought competitive encounter and to suggest that it was fixed is just nonsense!”

India won the match at Old Trafford by 47 runs, with Venkatesh Prasad taking five wickets.
